Good point and then there is

-tuning
-stress testing and monitoring - getting "relevant" info
-database cloning
-ArcSDE and GIS databases

However, a good Oracle and other developer friend of mine with 20 years in the business was told that she was going to be replaced by someone from another country who would be paid 1/2 her salary and no experience. In answer to the question about the 20 years experience they said "oh well".
