Jesse,

You mean a new way of being ignored. Here's what I got when I accessed your link:

ERROR: MetaLink Network or Page Error

Well, Oracle announced a new way of submitting enhancement requests:

http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_datab ase_id=NEW&p_id=307724.996

Not that it'll necessarily help, but I'd like to think that it couldn't hurt... :)

I agree. Sounds like they took the MS/XP approach to keeping the OS up to date.
Well, my DB is not a (home) desktop OS. Sorry, I'll apply the patches me-self.

We got a preview of the new OEM during Andy Mendelsohn's talk.

HTML-based, what *really* scared me is that Oracle is just NOT listening. They demo'd OEM's ability to track what patches you need to apply, go out to the net (Metalink), download the patch and apply it. Automatically.

See, I don't know about anyone else, but my production database servers sit behind several firewalls. And have no direct connection to the net. Nor do we want one.

Oracle has been saying "administer your database from the web" since version 8 (I had a conversation with Ken Jacobs at an NYOUG meeting back then, trying to tell him why that was a BAD thing). Then they release alerts that say that the listener is vulnerable to attack and break-in. Then they demo a product that will open a connection to the net from my protected servers.

Oh yeah, I'm gonna use OEM for that feature. NOT.
