You may be able to use the RR date format, as in: DATE "mm/dd/rr". Be sure to read up on it first, so you know how it works. This year, 1/1/89 should be interpreted as 1/1/1989. However, either 1/1/50, or maybe it's 1/1/49, will be interpreted as 1/1/2050 (or 2049). Those rules flip-flop later in this century.

If RR won't work, you may be able to use a SQL expression to manipulate the input date using Oracle's built-in functions. Hopefully RR will work though.
