How big the DW ? Do you need partitionning ?

Oracle and DB2 has proven it can handle large volume, SQL Server not yet.

Since your data sources are Oracle than you can do the ETL in PL/SQL because all DBs are Oracle.

We are trying to evaluate our choices for a database for a new data warehouse.

We currently have an Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 for production on AIX, another Oracle instance on W2K Server to support EDI and DB2 for WebSphere and Tivoli. The hardware we would be acquiring is probably an IBM x-Series with W2K Server as a platform.

I realize the breadth and depth of this question but if anyone would like to point out papers or books to read/study, or is willing to share their experiences, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks,
Saira
