Oracle RAM requirements on Linux

We are looking into setting up a test system with Oracle 9i, 9iAS, 9i IFS on Linux and are not sure about requirements. There are some internal territory issues which I can't go into - but the latest flareup is that someone in a different territory is insisting that we can't install this on anything less than 2 GB of RAM. I'm skeptical. I know I can run 8i on substantially less, but I know 9i is bigger, and all these java layers can be real memory hogs. But can we get something running on a 1 GB box?

Anybody running all 3 services on 1 Linux box, and if so, how much RAM is minimal/reasonable? Some rough indication of # of users would be useful too. I'm afraid I can't give any of our requirements; I don't know them myself (gotta love these prototype projects).

Moving toward production, I think we'd run this on 2 separate boxes, possibly more (with RAC and/or clustering on the app server side).

thanks,
-Chris
