Oracle9i v/s 8i performance ?

Good day

I just wanted to find out about the performance comparison between Oracle9i and Oracle8i or Oracle 8.0.X.

Does a new release of oracle software have any enhancement, better performance, given that its requirements are met ? Looking at 9i's requirements, or say generaly every new release of Oracle normally require more memory, disk space, etc than the previous.
That being the case, does that guarentee any performance improvement or degradation in performance ?
