DB Block Buffers Too Large

Listers,

What would be the indicators of having too many block buffers? I'm assuming that as is the case with many things, you reach a point of diminishing returns, and possibly even a point of harm (e.g. spending more time managing buffer contents as opposed to doing "real" work?).
