Version and upgrade issues.

We've run into situations where we've had to place applications into separate instances due to the fact they are certified on mutually exclusive versions of oracle.

If you need public synonyms, and the two applications might have objects with the same name.

Security problems with having the users from both applications logging in to the same database.

What would be the thought pattern when trying to determine whether to put a new application's data under a new instance vs. putting it into an existing instance with a new schema?
