   Other ideas:

       Whether the applications are likely to have similar upgrade requirements. That is, are they likely to both be upgraded to Oracle10 or whatever at the same time.

       See the posting yesterday about the ratio of DBAs to instances. If your management puts great faith in this ratio, go for separate instances and boost your ratio. ;-)

What would be the thought pattern when trying to determine whether to put a new application's data under a new instance vs. putting it into an existing instance with a new schema?  

Some ideas:  

  1. Different maintenance requirements - 24x7 vs. 8-5
  2. OLTP vs. OLAP

Any other ideas?
