If you mean to back up to disk and then later copy the files to disk, we often do that. If you mean to only back up to disk and never copy to a removable media, you won't have disaster recovery method. Someone else touched on this, but I wanted to mention it directly. Most data worth storing in Oracle needs some type of DR, even if it is just taking the tape home after backup.

I'm currently involved in a discussion about the virtues of backups to disk AND to tape of production databases. I'm for the idea, and there are others who are only wanting to backup to disk, and want to depend on our DR server for any other recovery requirement. I'm looking for your thoughts on this topic. Anyone want to contribute some good reasons to g ahead and backup to tape anyway?
