execute count in trace file

what is meaning of execute count >1 in tkprof output . Ideally there should be 1 parse , 1 execute and multiple fetch count . But parse count may be more if there are some recursive calls ( rite ? ) . Similerly is it rite to interpret that more then 1 execute means some recursive stuff is going on with that sql ?
