This parameter (AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS) is set to FALSE by default. There still are *.aud files generated in 9.2.0.2.

>From what I gathered, this parameter is to audit 'sys' actions when auditing is in use. Until 9.2 'sys' was a trusted user and auditing was not possible for its actions.

IIRC, it can be turned off in 9.2 (not there in 9.0) using the AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS parameter.

The audit files (*.aud) you see in that directory are created when you connect to the database as 'internal' or using 'connect / as sysdba'. This has nothing to do with database auditing. Tracking 'internal' connections in these files can not be turned off. In fact, one must delete the old *.aud files from this directory from time to time.
