AutoDBA

Hi,

Does anyone use or has anyone used a database performance/monitoring tool called AutoDBA. What are the pro's and con's? Right now they are trying to get us to look at it and evaluate it. Luckily my manager has told them that they need to sell the product to myself and the other Jr. DBA here before we will purchase it. I'm guessing my hesitations about using a canned software to monitor our databases are probably unjustified. One concern is how much time will I spend to monitor the monitor (how much effort is needed to install and configure the software)? Also if we start using a software I may put me in a position where I won't have to learn and understand the concepts. My manager would like it because then it would take away my
"oracle" work. I already struggle with trying to get time to work on
"oracle". For example, I always telling him I need time to test by backup
and recovery (especially the recovery) procedures, yet there is always some
"fire" that needs to be put out first. At times I have just taken the time
to do some minor testing but would always like more time to be more confident of my processes.

Anyway, back to the question. I would also like to know in general how do most of you feel about software that monitors/fixes your databases? Any other recommendations? Any favorites?

Thanks,
Jeff Eberhard
