COMPATIBLE Parameter in INIT.ORA

Hi All,

I've been reading up in Metalink about the COMPATIBLE parameter in the INIT.ORA. The article that I was reading was related to an Oracle 7 database and warned of the dangers of changing the COMPATIBLE value.

Does anybody know if this is still the case with Oracle 8?

I've recently inherited a database upgrade and noticed in the INIT.ORA that the COMPATIBLE parameter was not updated so I want to change it but would like to know what to look out for.

Many Thanks,

N.
