I *never* would do a DB stat ... I rather do a schema stat (for small schema) or a table wise stat so I can run multiple scripts in parallel.

I remember it was noted here that dbms_stats.gather_database_stats was busted in 8i, it went about attacking system ts. Is that fixed in 9.2.0.2?
