Since you want to learn, how about getting Rama Velpuri's Oracle Backup and Recovery Guide. I find it to be the *best* book on this subject. It also has a number recovery scenarios for you to practice and learn.

Sorry folks .. i asked a wrong question. thanks for ur answers but those crashing dbs recovery was totally heavy for me. i shud i have asked, what r the different types of crashes and how to recover from them ? i mean, only the general recovery scenarious. since i m learning, i just want to understand the most frequent ones and learn recovering.

say like, Rich Jesse mentioned, recovering a truncate'd table from the backup. something similiar, on those lines.
