Actually autoextend datafiles were available in Oracle 7.3.4. I just checked in the Oracle 7 Server SQL Reference Manual (HTML) that we have here. I do remember though that you wouldn't see the autoextend column unless you applied the right patch or something? My memory is failing me, but it's something to do with a data dictionary table called SYS.FILEXT$. Does table SYS.FILEXT$ have a column in it called INC? If it does then you should be able to create an autoextend datafile.
