RE: Programming languages that make DBA's lives easier

In priority order, I would recommend:  

1. SQL
2. Whatever language your apps are written in: it's probably Java or PL/SQL, but it might be anything (PHP, Perl, VB, ASP, Python, Tcl, C, C++, C#, ksh, csh, sh, etc.). If you've not found your job yet, then the best bets are Java and PL/SQL.
3. Whatever language your database and system administration staff use to do their jobs. If you've not found your job yet, then I'd submit that the best one to start with is Perl.
