Just set it up now. We have a remote site which just needs startup and shutdown capabilities, and only for those times when the network is down, a dba is unavailable or cannot get to the offsite server, and maintenance must be
performed. This will allow them to bring the database down gracefully, whereas before, they just basically "pulled   the plug".
