You could probably "fake" this by renaming the table or playing with synonyms, or by revoking privileges, but I don't know of a pl/sql command or procedure that can prevent a user from performing SELECT against a table. Even then, I don't think the SELECT statement will ever pause until the lock is released. It would probably just raise an error. Maybe you can convince the "user" to re-think the requirement. hth
