They are correct that they don't want you to do it. The only approved NAS solution by Oracle is Network Appliance's product. Other NFS, shared drive etc aren't good idea to put Oracle database files.

Thanks for correcting me Richard.

I had tried that in the past and Oracle had said it couldn't be done nor would they want me doing it.
I agreed after thinking about it.
