It is definately an HR thing. I went from being an PeopleSoft application developer to a Senior DBA overnight (DBA quit and I volunteered).

I knew diddly (sometimes still feel that way 5 yrs later) but because I was a senior developer they had to make me a senior DBA for HR seniority/compensation reasons. This happens all the time.

Titles don't mean a whole lot.
