Jack,

I have not tried the 7.2/9.2 combination specifically but I know for sure that a 7.1 client cannot communicate with anything higher than 7.3. I remember a hasty migration where every commit issued by the client was resulting in a crash of the shadow process. LOL. Back-pedalling was immediate. BTW might explain your end-of-communication.    A 7.3 client can talk to a 8i database, but I am unsure whether it is on speaking terms with a 9.x. Wouldn't bet on it.    As far as I remember 7.2 (pretty buggy) I cannot say whether it was more 7.1-like or more 7.3-like; I think that the big thing was advanced (Rmmmmph) replication, but SQL*Net-wise I would rather put it on the 7.1.6 side.
