True. And even if you're waiting 30% of your elapsed time in "single-task message" (very significant for us on hour-long table loads), Oracle Support says there's not a damn thing you can do about it. From my recent iTAR closed Christmas Day 2002:

Oracle use to have a single task mode, client application access SGA directly,
rather than now all connections are in two task mode, or client-server mode, client application access SGA through a server shadow process. But single task
still used somewhere internally. In you case, it could be when building intermedia index.
But it's out of user's control.

If it's a load of a table or some such, and you are able to load it without the Context/Intermedia/OracleText index in place, by all means do so. In our case, some of the updates to the table being loaded required the use of the Context index to be in place (very poor 3rd-party design buried data in a free-format text field).

Sorry to be late on this with the Holidaze and all. Good luck!

For sale: 1 (one) used 4MB Palm Pilot IIIx w/leather Targa case. Doesn't like being jammed in car doors with an Altoids tin, so it would like new glass and LCD (and possibly more). Yours for only a 12-pack of Guinness 15.9oz cans if you give me a postage-paid return box. <sigh> And Christmas has come and gone. Figures.
