ORA-24370 illegal piecewise operation attempted

In development, we suddenly hit this error today. This is coming from a SQR report that tries to insert a record into a financials database (8.0.5).

>From one instance it works fine, from another it returns this error. These
two instances are 9202, but the instance where query breaks has two additional patches installed.

How can I find more information about this error and its resolution?
