Versioning the database ?
Take a backup of the database on a seperate tape each day !

What components of the database do you want to version ? Table definitions ? View definitions ? Packages/Procedures/Triggers ? Code Objects should be versioned, but data objects [Tables/Indexes/Sequences] would generally not vary once the design is done, save for a few changes/additions/enhancements.
