Are you sure an index is appropriate? Will it actually reduce the LIOs or
will it artifically inflate the BCHR? This is just the kind of thinking that

This help file contains basic information about each command recognized by ListGuru. More detailed help is available through these commands:

Interacting with ListGuru:
ListGuru is a Mailing List Manager (MLM) which understands the commonly used commands of many other MLM's, including ListProc, listserv, Majordomo,
SmartList, Mailbase and Listcaster, among others.
All commands should be sent by E-mail to the following address:
ListGuru_at_fatcity.com <-- Note spelling closely...
The Subject: line is ignored, so do not place commands on it. Commands go in the message BODY, one command per line. You can send as many commands in
a single message as you wish. Each command has a specific format, as
outlined
below. In the explanations below, replace any word enclosed by angle
brackets,
with an appropriate response. For example:
INFO <list>
would be replaced with:
INFO GARDENING-L Other command replacements:
<list> means the mailing list name (always suffixed with "-L")
<real name> means your given name or surname, not E-mail address
<password> means a password given to you for closed lists
<search text> means arbitrary text, not case sensitive
<option> means a particular option, dependent on the command
<filename> means a filename (no pathnames are allowed)
<command> means any ListGuru command
<description> means arbitrary text, case sensitive

The following commands are recognized by ListGuru (in alphabetical order):
ALLMAIL <list>
Displays a short summary (who, when, what) of all messages received and
sent out since the last time a digest was produced (generally midnight of
the previous day, but could be longer on low-traffic lists).

ARCHIVES
Displays a list of all mailing lists which have file archives and which
you are currently a subscriber to.

BIOGRAPHY <list> INDEX BIOGRAPHY <list> <user> BIOGRAPHY <list> ALL BIOGRAPHY <list> BIOGRAPHY <list> DELETE
to create a short "biography" for themselves, which is then available to
all
other members of the same list. BIOGRAPHY can be shortened to BIO if you
prefer -- both spellings work equally well.
Form #1: BIO <list> INDEX
Returns a complete list of whose bio is available for the given list. As
an example, you could do a BIO GARDENING-L INDEX command and ListGuru
would
send back a list of all BIO's so far submitted for the GARDENING-L list.
Form #2: BIO <list> <user>
Sends back a BIO for a specific user. Usually it is the next command you issue after the INDEX form. You will be sent back the complete biography text as submitted by that specific user. Be sure to use the name listed in the INDEX form to get information on the right person.
Form #3: BIO <list> ALL
Similar to form #2, but sends ALL biographies that are available for the list you specify. A quick way to get familiar with everyone, instead of just individual users.
Form #4: BIO <list>
This is how you submit your OWN biography. When you use this form of the
command, it should be the only command you send in that message, and the
message MUST contain a uuencoded file containing your biography. At the
current time, MIME attachments are not supported, so the attached file
must first be uuencoded, then sent with your message. If you have
problems
with uuencode, contact ListMaster_at_fatcity.com for assistance.
Form #5: BIO <list> DELETE
This form deletes any biography entry YOU have submitted for the list specified. Note you cannot delete anyone elses entry; only your own.

CONFIRM <list>
Confirms whether you are a subscriber to a particular list or not.

DIRECTORY/LIST
See the LISTS command below.
The DIRECTORY/LIST command can be abbreviated to DIR/LIST if desired.
Synonyms: LISTS
END
Stops further processing by ListGuru. Useful if your messages contain
signature blocks or other text which you don't want ListGuru to process.
ListGuru will also automatically stop processing any message when the next
line begins with two consecutive dashes, underlines, equal signs,
asterisks
or pound signs (-_=*#). Most signature blocks begin with these
characters.
Any line beginning with a right angle-bracket (">") is assumed to a reply
indicator, and processing stops. Any line beginning with a left angle- bracket ("<") is assumed to mark an HTML tag, and processing stops.
Synonyms: STOP, QUIT
GET [ <list> ] <filename>
Retrieves a given file from the archives for a list. Filenames must be
specific (i.e., no wildcards) and the file must exist in the archive. If
<list> is omitted, then <filename> must be one of the following names:
PKZ204G.EXE WINZIP.EXE WINZIP32.EXE

HELP [ <command> | DETAILED | USAGE ]
Provides help information, depending on what is requested. If the USAGE
parameter is given, a general primer on using your mailing list will be
sent to you. If DETAILED is given, an exhaustive list of all commands,
and all formats, will be sent. If a particular command is specified, help
for ONLY that command will be sent. Finally, if no parameters are used, this help file will be sent to you.
INDEX <list>
Displays a list of all files available in the archives for a particular
list. Information includes filename, size, date and description.

INFO <list>
Sends the information packet for a particular list. The information
packet
includes information useful for POTENTIAL subscribers of the mailing list,
as opposed to CURRENT subscribers.

JOIN <list> [ <real name> ] [ <password> ] See the SUBSCRIBE command below.
Synonyms: SIGNON, SUBSCRIBE
LASTMAIL <list>
Shows a short summary (who, when, what) of the LAST message sent to a
particular list, regardless of when it was sent.

LEAVE <list>
See the UNSUBSCRIBE command below.
Synonyms: SIGNOFF, UNJOIN, UNSUBSCRIBE
LISTS
Displays a list of all mailing lists carried AT THIS SITE. Includes list
name, description, moderation status and private/public status.
Synonyms: DIRECTORY/LIST

LISTS GLOBAL [ /<search text> ]
**NOT CURRENTLY IMPLEMENTED** Sends a list of all known mailing lists
which
are available on the Internet. Search can be constrained by providing an
arbitrary text string to find in the master list.

QUERY <list>
See the STATUS command below.
Synonyms: STATUS
QUIT
See the END command above.

RECIPIENTS <list>
See the WHO command below.
Synonyms: REVIEW, SEND/LIST, WHO
RENEW <list> <password>
For lists which are password protected, this will renew your subscription
to the list for a different period of time. The password given to you
is encoded with the time period your subscription is valid for, so by
using
a new password, you effectively extend your subscription.
This command is equivalent to UNSUBSCRIBing followed by SUBSCRIBing with the new password. This command is only valid for current subscribers -- new subscribers must use the SUBSCRIBE command first.

RESUME MAIL <list>
An alias for the SET <list> MAIL command. See the SET command below.
REVIEW <list>
See the WHO command below.
Synonyms: RECIPIENTS, SEND/LIST, WHO
SEARCH <list> <search text>
Searches the file archives for a particular list, looking for the search
text provided. Search text cannot contain wildcards and is NOT case
sensitive. No quotes are needed, but they can be supplied if desired.
The
search text can be up to 60 characters long.
At this time, no logical operations (and, or, not) are recognized.

SEND/LIST <list>

SET <list> <option>
The SET command allows you to change the settings of your subscription (or
your profile, as it is often called). There are a number of settings that
can be changed, and each have a corresponding opposite setting.
<option> can be any one of the following:
NOMAIL Temporarily stop receiving messages (for vacation, etc).
MAIL Return to receiving messages normally
DIGEST Start receiving digest messages. All messages during the
day are collected and sent as a single message at
midnight.
NODIGEST Return to individual (real-time) messages
CONCEAL Hide your E-mail address in WHO commands by other
members.
NOCONCEAL Reveal (or allow to be seen) your E-mail address.
REPRO Receive a copy of all postings you make to the list.
NOREPRO Do not send you a copy of postings you make to the list.

SIGNOFF <list>

SIGNON <list> [ <real name> ] [ <password> ] See the SUBSCRIBE command below.
Synonyms: JOIN, SUBSCRIBE
STATUS <list>
Displays your current profile for the given list. Your profile includes
information such as whether or not you are receiving the digest version of
a list, whether service has been temporarily halted, whether you receive a
copy of your own postings, etc.
Synonyms: QUERY, SET
STOP
See the END command above.
Synonyms: END, QUIT
SUBMIT <list> [ <description> ]
Places an attached file (either by MIME encoding, or uuencoded in the text
following the SUBMIT command) in the file archive for the list specified.
A description of the file is entered from what you provide on the command
line after the list name. The description can be up to 60 characters long.
You may use this command only ONCE in any single message to ListGuru (this
is an exception to the rule of putting any number of commands in a
message).
It is recommended that this command is used by itself. It is also
advisable
to include an END command immediately following this command, to keep
ListGuru from processing any attachment headers.

SUBSCRIBE <list> [ <real name> ] [ <password> ]
Subscribe yourself to a particular list. If you are already a subscriber
to
the list, you will receive a friendly reminder that you are already on the
list. You cannot be subscribed twice.
You may optionally (yet recommended) include your real name -- not your E-mail address, mind you -- after the list name. This helps others find you in the list of subscribers, if your address is not concealed.
Once you are subscribed, you will be sent a welcome message explaining the
workings of the list, including how to UNSUBSCRIBE and change your profile.
If a password is required to subscribe to a list, it should be included as
the last item on the SUBSCRIBE command line. Most lists do not require passwords, but you will be told so when you attempt to subscribe to a list
that requires one.
Additionally, some lists are moderated, and some may require that your subscription be approved first. The LISTS command shows which lists have
these characteristics, however merely attempting to subscribe to a list will tell you if any special handling is required.
The option to allow you to subscribe as a *different* address than your current one is not supported by ListGuru -- the sender address is always used as the address to subscribe.
The SUBSCRIBE command can be abbreviated to "SUB" if desired.

SUSPEND MAIL <list>
An alias for the SET <list> NOMAIL command. See the SET command above.
UNJOIN <list>
See the UNSUBSCRIBE command below.
Synonyms: LEAVE, SIGNOFF, UNSUBSCRIBE
UNSUBSCRIBE <list> | * | _ALL
You will be removed from the list specified. If a "goodbye" message is
available, it will be sent along with your removal confirmation.
Otherwise
you will be immediately removed from the list.
The option to allow you to unsubscribe a *different* address than your current one is not supported by ListGuru -- the sender address is always used as the address to unsubscribe.
If "*" or "_ALL" is found for a list name, you will be unsubscribed from all mailing lists AT THIS SITE.
The UNSUBSCRIBE command can be abbreviated to "UNSUB" if desired.

VIEW <list> <filename>
Shows the contents of any archive file ending in .ZIP, .LHA or .ZOO.
These
are compressed files which contain other files. Common de-compressing
programs can be obtained by using the GET command.
Currently this command is not yet implemented.

WELCOME <list>
Sends the welcome packet for a particular list. The information packet
includes information useful for CURRENT subscribers of the mailing list,
as
opposed to POTENTIAL subscribers. This same file is sent automatically
when
you subscribe, however in case you lost it, this command sends it again.

WHICH
Displays a list of all mailing lists AT THIS SITE for which you are a
confirmed subscriber.

WHO <list>
Sends a list of all subscribers to the list specified. This list may be
partially or completely blocked, depending on the configuration specified
by the list administrator. Most subscriber lists are ONLY available to other list members, however. You will be told if the list is not public.
By default, your address will be included in these results unless you
have issued the SET <list> CONCEAL command to hide your address for
privacy
concerns. The STATUS command will indicate your profile settings.
