Im interested in finding out about the size of SGA . How large should it be?
Is it a different size on Unix than NT

Here I have a 2G database that's holding a 500M oracle dat file and the sga seems very small

Comparitive to an install of 9i on Linux over the weekend the sga on the linux box was about 40M

ORACLE instance started.

Total System Global Area 17499404 bytes
Fixed Size 70924 bytes
Variable Size 13156352 bytes
Database Buffers 4194304 bytes
Redo Buffers 77824 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.

SVRMGR> select 17499404 * 1024 * 1024 from dual; 17499404*1
