I've never encountered a reason for not starting production databases when a system boots.

If the system is going to need media recovery, you're gonna get called.

No point it waking me up at 3:00 AM unless absolutely necessary. :)

Just an informal survey:

Would *you* automatically start a production Oracle instance on a boot of a
Unix box?

Why or why not? Something version/OS specific (or maybe some crazy OPS reason)?

The only reason I can come up with for "no" is that I'm thinking an autostart on boot could interfere with a recovery scenario, although I'm at
a loss to come up with a specific case, thus the question.

Geez, only 34 and my memory is fading...
