I've always set up autostart. I don't like keeping the same hours as some of the system administrators I've worked with. Make sure the sys ad understands the procedure for bypassing the autostart when they need to. Keep your pager or cell phone turned on.

Just an informal survey:

Would *you* automatically start a production Oracle instance on a boot of a Unix box?

Why or why not? Something version/OS specific (or maybe some crazy OPS reason)?

The only reason I can come up with for "no" is that I'm thinking an autostart on boot could interfere with a recovery scenario, although I'm at a loss to come up with a specific case, thus the question.

Geez, only 34 and my memory is fading...
