Due to limited hardware, we stored data/index on the same NetApp volume (q-tree in NetApp speak). Most importantly, you need to be certain that redo/archive/control are NOT in the same q-tree as any datafiles. This is due to how 'snaprestore' works (if used), where it restores all files in the q-tree rather than selective files. Because of this, we didn't use snaprestore, but instead manually copied from snapshots. And never mixed database files with other application files on the same q-trees.
