what "image", the marketing people's garbage? the clueless HR departments?

big software companies make a lot of money from training and certification, so they have an incentive to selectively present information in such a way as to convince the inexperienced that they "MUST HAVE CERTIFICATION". why should people swallow that kind of terdliness without excersising some prudence and independent judgement?

do a web search on the history of computer industry certification to see that there is a lot of controversy about the practical "value" of the certification the diferent vendors offer, and how it has changed over time (start with Novell around 1990?).
