When you say 'Give the LGWR its own processor' did you mean that processor binding needs to be done? As per my understanding, processor binding makes sure that a particular process is bound to run only on one particular processor and cannot hop across to other processors, even if they are free. As far as I am aware you cannot devote a processor to a specific process. In this case, processor binding would make the situation worse....

In other words, could you explain what you meant? :)
