I was the only Oracle DBA in a county larger than most
Eastern Seaboard states. When the time came to find a
new job, leaving became a real chore. In a hot job
market it took me 7 months to find a job that suited
my location, work and moving requirements. Taking a
job in a remote location is something close to a
career commitment to a corporation. Given the current
economy and job market, short of getting a 'no cut
contract' I would be very cautious about moving to the
hinterlands for a job - even if it is a great company.
Companies are bought and sold every day. When that
happens, everything changes. While I am not thrilled
about living in a large metropolatin area, at least I
have options if something happens to my employer.
