Well, I was a VAX/VMS system administrator, and we were a spoiled lot who was used to things like the source code (on microfish, can you believe it?) and very good internal books. I once knew precisely at what IPL a page fault occurs (IPL 2), at which IPL is the clock running (IPL_SYNCH=8) and alike. I was used to the entrails of VAX/VMS. When I switched to Unix, I kept the same mentality.
