RE: what if recovery catalog is lost?

Alexandre - Often RMAN is used only once or twice a day, so it easy to export it. The other advantage of the export is in case of a disaster recovery onto a "loaner" machine, it is easier to get your RMAN catalog back running. You can copy the export over to the target system so that gets written to the backup tape, along with the backups, so for disaster recovery you only need a single tape.
