No, I didn't do *any* of Joe's steps.

Installed Oracle 9iR2 from runInstall, ctx link failed. Ignored it, everything else went fine.

Then did a 'relink ctx' from the command line, worked fine.

Jared,
It appears that the libnsl-2.2.2-stub.so that you linked in step 3 and ran as Oracle did not do the relink job properly but in step 8 you linked the ibnsl-2.2.5-so as root and then the next day did the relink. I do not know if that is the answer or not but it looks like the reasoning is correct.

Strangest think. I just did a 'relink ctx' and it succeeded.

This without doing anything to libnls.so.1.

As you know, ctx failed to link when I installed 9ir2 on RH 7.2

Now from the cmd line: no problem.

Any ideas?

Ok i blew away rh 7.2 on laptop last night, did a plain install of rh 7.3

did the install of 9ir2 afterwards

here is the only issue i've come up with:

Problem: Context option would not link, click ignore and let the installer
go on its merry way
Solution:

As root, cd /lib
rm libnsl.so.1
ln -s $ORACLE_HOME/lib/stubs/libnsl-2.2.2-stub.so libnsl.so.1 ****************************IMPORTANT NOTE******************************** OPEN A DIFFERENT WINDOW TO LOGIN IN AS ORACLE FOR STEP 4, DO NOT CLOSE THE WINDOW THAT YOU'RE LOGGED IN AS ROOT, OTHERWISE YOU WONT BE ABLE TO SU TO ROOT OR LOGIN FROM ANOTHER WINDOW ONCE YOU DID STEP3. IF YOU HAPPEN TO CLOSE THAT WINDOW, YOU'LL NEED TO CUT POWER, BRING LINUX UP IN SINGLE USER MODE TO DO STEP 7.
As oracle user
(set up ORACLE_HOME, etc).
relink all
If successful, as root, cd /lib; rm libnsl.so.1 8 still as root: ln -s libnsl-2.2.5-so libnsl.so.1
