redo log file extensions (in fact, any file extension) are not fixed by the database but are whatever you want them to be.

Oracle uses a standard of "rdo" for redo logs, "ctl" for controlfiles, "dbf" for datafiles.

You can use whatever you want and it does not have to be consistent with what you used before. It's silly not to make it consistent but you can do it
