Monitoring of table statistics

After reading some notes on the dbms_stats package, I have tried using alter table .... nomonitoring to set the monitoring status of some tables to No, so that these tables would not be analyzed by the dbms_stats.gather_database_stats procedure which is run daily on our machines.

But it is not working at all. We are running Oracle 8i databases and I am using the GATHER option in the gather_database_stats procedure. Tried looking through the metalink at the Oracle website as well as on the internet but could not find anything on how to stop the gather_database_stats from analyzing these tables? Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks in advance!
