In general, for Oracle, it is better to have four 500 MHz CPU's than two 1000 MHz CPU's. Please keep in mind if your system is I/O bound then more/faster CPU's won't help.

Hi Lisa,

I would expect that 2 x 1GHz processors will be faster than 1 x 2GHz processor as there will be less context switching as each processor is handling a smaller individual load.

That said, you're probably paying your Oracle licence per processor so it may make financial sense to go for fewer and faster and take the hit.

(This is opinion, not based on any real data, so take with pinch of salt!)
