Hi Barbara,

I have just completed an upgrade of our production dbs from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.3. Due to problems with our application, I actually had to migrate from 8.0.5 to 8.0.6 first. Then as in your case, Oracle said they didn't support migrating to 8.1.7.3 directly. So I migrated to 8.1.7.0.0 first, then patched up.

Luckily, I didn't experience any problems though I did hit a couple of bugs for which workarounds/patches were available.

Personally, I would rather the go through the temporary "clumsiness" of having three Oracle homes then hitting some major problem where I would have to downgrade or worse.

Cheers

Sujatha

Jack:
I asked exactly the same question of this list in the past, and did not get any responses.
Oracle (via an iTAR) gave us the green light to go directly from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.2, which I did with our test database. (So now I have 2 oracle home's: 8.0.5 and 8.1.7.2) This worked successfully on the test db. However, I'd now like to take the prod database directly from 8.0.5 from 8.1.7.3. Oracle now proclaims that they do not support migrating from 8.0 to 8.1.7.3, and that you need to go to 8.1.7.0 first, then to 8.1.7.3

I haven't decided what I'll do. I'm not wild about installing a 3rd oracle home, but this is a critical database and I don't want to screw it up.

I'd be interested in what you decide to do. Barb
