Yea, I have to admit I'm becoming (slowly) a bit of a perl geek as well.. Mainly due to being the webadmin for the Cool-Tools web site, and having to work through the CGI programming for that.. So I already have perl installed and running on my local web/database test server.. Though, the actual question was for a client, that didn't :(

It's one hell of a programming language - and as Tom Mercadante pointed out, what I wanted was *easily* done within perl! God, now you've got *me* sounding like Jared! ;P

I don't - but maybe take a look at the rman package (dbms_rman.delete_file or something like that) which allows you to delete files from the operating system.

You could then use PL/SQl and the various v$ views to determine which archives you want to toast.
