	Two points of clarification:
	1. This isn't gospel, just what I understood an Oracle instructor to
say.
	2. He was saying (provided I understood him correctly) that you have
unknowingly used an MML when you backed up to disk. RMAN was shipped with a piece of Legato hidden in it.

At a practical level, I don't think this matters, and I certainly didn't see this mentioned in the RMAN manual.

What? I have been able to perform backups to disk without any mml involved. Did you mean to say that rman needs something plugged in for tape backups? That was my understanding.
