Tell your vendor it is none of their darn business what you use. :)

Would they object to you using Apache? or Linux? open source software should not have any stigma associated with it. Ask them for specific reasons why they don't like it.

gpg works fine.

BTW, A single user license of PGP should run about $75-$100. No server is needed.
