Hi!

I have setup 9i as a 2 node RAC configuration on Tru64 5.1. The switch from normal init.ora to the new spfile configuration worked as documented.

Then I tried to set global defaults for session_cached_cursors, which was a normal init.ora parameter in 8i:

SQL> alter system set session_cached_cursors=100 scope=spfile sid='*'; alter system set session_cached_cursors=100 scope=spfile sid='*'

                 *

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02096: specified initialization parameter is not modifiable with this option

It seems that certain parameters (yes, this is documented) can no longer be set on a system level but must be set within every session.

Then I tried to convert the spfile back to a normal init.ora to check if it works if these parameters are already defined when you create the spfile. All I get is:

SQL> create pfile from spfile;
create pfile from spfile
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-07393: unable to delete text file

Additional information: 44
Additional information: 43
Additional information: 3

I also tried giving full filenames to the pfile/spfile parameter but it doesn't help. The spfile is working since I can startup both instances without problems.

Open for suggestions,
Stefan
