Impact of striping on index range scans?

What is the impact of striping on index range scans?

Since we striped our disk that our indexes are located on, we have been showing more than thirty times the number of rows read during index range scans.

How does disk striping (in our case using Veritas volume manager) affect range scans?

In general, what determines how many records are read during an index range scan?

Thanks,
