Just one comment. Back on O7, some testing was done by one of the DBAs where I used to work. He determined that the consistency was within a schema, not the whole export. SO if you had cross references between schemas, you could experience problems on imports.

I don't know if this "functionality" continued to 8, 8i or 9i.

Of course it can affect performance, but I think it depends on your hardware and the system activity in the moment of the export as well

It means that the tables exported are consistent to each other.

(The data within a table exported is always consistent independientely of the "consistent" option used.)
