possible down time of a standby?
one out-of-synch condition with Advanced Replication can cause you hours of down time.

I'd suggest you continue to question the consultants about the choice of AR as a failover solution.
If you're running at least 8.1.7, standby is normally a better choice. AR is a good distributed solution,
but not usually a good failover solution. (Unless you can get your hands on Quest's shareplex)
