Dedicated server memory usage 8.1.7 vs 7.3.4

We just recently migrated some production databases from 7.3.4 to 8.1.7.3 on AIX. We have noticed that the amount of memory per dedicated server process spiked from about 400k to 2m. Anybody have any ideas about why this occurs? Is this normal? Thanks
