        Subject: Storing Unix SYSTEM Date

I have a batch Unix script that captures the system date at the beginning and end of the script.
I want to store the date as a date field in an Oracle table. The system date looks like 02082002155824
when I retrieve it. When I try to store it in a date column Oracle complains about the format.
Can anyone tell me the best way to handle this?
